Robert “Bob” George Schoenkopf III, Veteran

ABOUT THE MISSION:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, we have been invited to stand for Robert “Bob” George Schoenkopf III, age 73. Bob served in the United States Marine Corps from 12 July 1967 to 14 July 1976. SSGT Schoenkopf served 18 months in Vietnam & Cambodia as a 6632 (Electronic Systems Tech) & a 6612 (Communication & Navigation Systems Tech) on helicopters & OV-10’s.
During Vietnam, Bob was in Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, Marine Aircraft Group 24, 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Fleet Marine Force. His unit was involved in Operation Eagle Pull evacuating personnel from Phenom Penh and Operation Frequent Wind evacuating personnel from the fall of Saigon. Bob’s helicopter was shot down twice and on one occasion, he and his crew were classified as MIA for 9 days until rescued by another helicopter crew. During his 9 years of Service to our Nation, Bob earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal w/4 bronze service stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, a Combat Action Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal w/2 bronze stars, the Combat Aircrew Insignia w/3 gold service stars, the Expert Rifle Badge and the Sharpshooter Pistol Badge.
Once Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps, Bob joined the Orange County California Sheriff’s Department and shortly thereafter joined the Tustin Police Department in Tustin, California where he retired on 7 July 2003 as Captain of Patrol Division. During his LEO service, Bob was a motorcycle officer and was the first Traffic Division Motorcycle Sergeant for the department. Please join us as we now stand for Bob just like he and his wife Chris stood for so many other patriots.
