The family of Richard “Ritchie” Shunk Jr. has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to stand a Flag line in Honor of his service to our Country. Richie was born August 10, 1967 in Ionia, Michigan. He joined the Marines in a delayed entry program in his senior year of high school, 1984-1985. Upon graduation from high school in Charlotte, Michigan in June 1985, he left for boot camp in August of that year.
After basic training, he went to Camp Pendleton? In June 1987 he was sitting on a ledge 3 stories up and lost his balance and fell. He became paralyzed from his chest down and only had use of his upper body/arms. Following his accident, he eventually relocated to Florida where his mom resided. He managed to reside in his own home for all of his years, along with assistance of friends and family.
Richie was a very caring, compassionate and generous towards others over the years. I believe he would at times put others needs over his own. Richie was a mechanic and attained the rank of Corporal.
