EOM – 01 April 21 LTC (RET) Richard Lee McLennan US Army, Vietnam Veteran, Lawton, Ok.

On a beautiful, cool morning in SW. Oklahoma three patriots on two bikes and one support vehicle gathered at Carriage Hills Christian Church. They were their to pay honor to the service of LTC (Ret) Richard Lee McLennan. After our briefing we staked flags along the East and West side of the parking lot with the flags on the East side leading to the front doors and the US Army Service Flag.

I made contact with the family and discovered this would be more than a memorial at the church. They would be going to the Old Post Cemetery where LTC McLennan had been laid to rest last April. Because Covid-19 restrictions had just been put in place on Ft. Sill, LTC McLennan did not receive Military Honors, that would be rectified today.

I spoke with the other PGR members and we switched gears to a full mission with accompaniment. As the memorial started the flags were furled and loaded in the support vehicle and it took off to Fort Sills Old Post Cemetery. The other riders stayed behind to accompany the family and friends to Ft. Sill. Law Enforcement did not arrive so the riders gave accompaniment to Ft. Sill obeying all traffic laws and doing a good job of keeping the group together. Upon arrival at the checkpoint the lead rider ask the MP at the gate if he could check everyone and then let them go throug as a group. He and another MP checked everyone and then let them go as a group.

They arrived at the cemetery and the riders quickly stood by a flag as the family took their seats. The vollies were fired and a six man detail folded and presented the flag. A bagpiper played Amazing Grace as he slowly walked away, the sound fading as he got father away. The PGR invocation was presented and the peacher closed the service with a few words.

I would like to thank the family for allow us to share in this day, the director at the Old Post Cemetery who was very helpful in helping me get the flags in place. But mostly our thanks must go to LTC (RET) Richard Lee McLennan for his many years in service to this great country, Stand Down and Rest, your mission here is complete.

Respectfully
Billy (5 Dollar) Hope
