ABOUT THE MISSION:
The family of USAF Sgt. Richard Charles Stephenson has honored the Patriot Guard Riders with a request for an escort from the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home to their hero’s final resting place at the Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO and there to stand a flag line where full military honors will be rendered.
Hero Stephenson was born in Springfield, MO on June 16, 1945 and died July 6, 2019 at the KU Med Center. Rick, as he liked to be called, served proudly and honorably in the US Air Force from June 1965 until December 1968, then in the Air Force Reserve until June 1971. Hero Stephenson rose to the rank of Sgt. and earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Medal for small arms expert, and the Marksmanship ribbon. His last duty assignment was with the 824th Supply Squadron, Pacific Area and worked in petroleum fuels management. His logged 1.5 years foreign service including the Vietnam war.
