Honor Mission
Richard Charles Hetzell
USN, USNR – Vietnam
Peoria, Arizona – 05-05-21


Richard Charles Hetzell is a United States Navy Veteran. Rick entered active duty on Jan. 6, 1969. Rick served 4 yrs., 6 months, and 13 days, of which, 3 yrs., 3 months, and 9 days were of foreign service, including Vietnam. Rick’s MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) was 5326 – Combatant Swimmer. On July 6, 1973, Rick was released from active duty and transferred to the United States Naval Reserve. Rick’s last duty assignment was IUWG-1 (Inshore Undersea Warfare Group One), Naval Amphibious Base, San Diego, Ca. On Jan. 5, 1975, having completed his term of obligation and having attained the rank of RM2 (Radioman 2nd Class), Rick was honorably discharged.  During his service to our country, Rick received: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Gold Star; Combat Action Ribbon; Purple Heart. It is our honor to stand in silent reverence as we show respect and gratitude to this hero for his sacrifices made for this nation.

Although all prior statewide mandates have been lifted at staging locations, all members must still adhere to the following:*All members are required to carry a face mask/cloth covering at all times during the mission. There are still partners (funeral homes, cemeteries, churches) that may require masks to be worn as well as social distancing. Some families may also request masks/face coverings be worn. We will always respect their wishes.*If you wish to wear a face mask at a mission, you are free to do so.*If you feel ill or have a temperature, please stay home until you improve.*Flag support can begin with the normal procedure of water and snacks for members. While disinfecting the poles is always a good idea, it is no longer required.
