Rafael Hernandez-Vega

Honor Mission
Rafael Hernandez-Vega, Veteran
USA – WWII
Houston, Texas – 06-25-19

ABOUT THE MISSION:

On October 16th, 1944, Rafael Hernandez-Vega joined the United States Army. Just shy of his 21st birthday, he was excited for the opportunity to serve his country. However, because he was born deaf in his right ear, he would serve the country as a cook for our troops. He was trained as all others for combat and how to handle a rifle, but spent the majority of his service preparing his comrades with a good meal. Mr. Hernandez-Vega served in the Army until April 5th, 1946, when his troop was demobilized. For his service, he received the American Theater Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and 2 Overseas Service Bars.
