AFTER ACTION REPORT: SGT Phillip Glen Nichols, US Army GWOT Veteran, Sapulpa, OK
Friday, 19 July was a hot, humid and sunny Oklahoma day. The PGR staged at First Baptist Church to flags that had been posted across the front of the church and were blowing gently in a hot Southerly wind. During the briefing all aspects of this mission, including several changes requested by the family, were presented. Following the briefing a Moment of Silence was given for Blue, Gold and Silver Star mothers, the silence was followed by a prayer. Due to the extreme heat the PGR formed two lines inside the entrance into the church and the doors were manned welcoming family and friends. When the service was complete the US Army Honor Guard and the PGR entered the church as a group. The Honor Guard played Taps, folded and presented the flag to Mrs. Nichols and exited the church. The PGR came forward, thanked the family, read and presented the plaque and Invocation Letter to Mrs. Nichols. A Final Salute was given, participated in by all in attendance, including many soldiers that has served with SGT Nichols. The PGR exited the church and formed a Respect Line as SGT Nichols was moved from the church into the coach. The PGR mounted up, and led the coach, family and friends from the church to South Heights Cemetery for Interment. With the assistance of the Sapulpa Police Department the accompaniment arrived safely at SGT Phillip Glen Nichols final resting place. As the family had requested a private grave side service the PGR was dismissed upon the arrival of the coach. Flags at the church and the grave side were retrieved at a later time.
Thank you, to the Nichols family for inviting the PGR to be a part of this service to Honor this Hero. Thank you to the Sapulpa Police Depart for their outstanding escort in allowing all to arrive at the cemetery without incident. Thank you to the PGR riders who took time out of their day to “Stand and Honor” this Hero, for many this was the second mission of the day in extreme heat to honor a hero.
“Rest in Peace” SGT Phillip Glen Nichols, US Army GWOT Veteran, your mission is complete, you are gone, but your service to this Great Nation will never be forgotten.
Respectfully submitted:
Mike “Penni” Pennington
