Peter F. Alukonis

ABOUT THE MISSION:

Peter F. Alukonis was a United States Air Force veteran. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952.
Note that these dates are directly related to the War in Korea which started in 1950 and ended in 1953.
Peter was inactive Air National Guard for 21 months until called up to attend school at Sheppard AFB Texas from July 1951 to January 1952. While there he received training as an Aircraft Mechanic. After school, Peter was assigned to the 4118th Organizational Maintenance Squadron, 106th Bomber Wing, March AFB, California. The 106th Bomb Group was federalized in February 1951 and assigned to Strategic Air Command. In March 1951, the wing moved to March Air Force Base, California. At March AFB, the 106th was re-equipped with Boeing B-29 Superfortress bombers and tankers and given the mission to train B-29 combat crews for service in Korea.
Airman First Class Alukonis was released from active duty and honorably discharged in May 1952 having served a total of 4 years.
