ABOUT THE MISSION:

The family and friends of Corporal Paul J Shannon requests the Patriot Guard Riders presence to escort the family from Holy Family Catholic Church to Jacksonville National Cemetery and stand a flag line for his service. As a member of the “Greatest Generation”, Corporal Shannon served his country honorably for 2 years during World War II. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1943 and was discharged after a two deployments in support of the Asiatic Pacific area aboard the USS Monterey. Corporal Shannon served as a Light Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Crewman and was involved in the following battles: Gilbert Islands- November 1943; Marshall Islands- Jan-Feb 1944; Marianas Islands- Jun and July 1944; Philippines- Sep-Oct 1944; and the Raid on Luzon, Philippine Islands- Dec 1944.  Corporal Shannon was  awarded the WWII Victory Medal, and was also Rifle Sharpshooter qualified.  Corporal Shannon was 95 upon the time of his passing.
