Newell\, Active Duty\nUSMC\nMULTI-CITY\, New York – 08 Nov 2017\n\n\n[HR][/HR]\nABOUT THE MISSION: \n\nThe family of United States Marine Corps  Sergeant Nicholas Harold Newell has request Patriot Guard Rider  participation in his military honors funeral services. SGT Newell died  suddenly as a result of a motorcycle accident on October 29\, 2017 in  Oceanside\, CA. He was 24 years of age. \nSGT Newell was born in Troy\, NY and was a 2011 graduate of Tamarac High  School. Shortly after graduation\, he joined the UNited States Marine  Corps and went on to attend Military Police School. He was awarded  Distinguished Honor Graduate and\, in April of 2012 transferred to the  3rd Law Enforcement Battalion in Okinawa\, Japan. He was selected to  become a Military Working Dog Handler (MWD)\, and was awarded “Top Dog”  upon graduation from training. He was promoted to Sergeant meritoriously  after attending several MWD schools. \nSGT Newell spent several years supporting training operation all over  the Pacific\, and\, in 2014 transferred to Joint Base San Antonio Lackland  AFB to act as Specialized Search Dog (SSD) instructor. In April of  2015\, SGT Newell attended Marine Special Operations Assessment and  Selection. After selection in January of 2016\, he attended the  Individual Training Course and graduated as a Marine Raider (Critical  Skill Operator). He was then stationed with the 1st Marine Raider  Battalion\, Marine Special Operations Company Delta\, Marine Special  Operations Team 8143.
