Nicholas served in the US Air force from 11 January 1951 to 10 January 1955 with the 529th Air Base Squadron as a Photographer. He earned the Good Conduct Medal\, the Korean Service Medal\, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was Honorably Discharged as an Airman 1st Class (E4).
