Ms. Norma D. Lewis, Veteran

ABOUT THE MISSION:

The Patriot Guard has been requested by the family to stand in honor of WWII Navy Veteran Ms. Norma D. Lewis, 97 years old. Norma joined the U.S. Navy at the age 21 joining 350,000 other women who signed up after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. In the war, she worked for naval intelligence, tracking German submarines off our coast from Charleston, South Carolina. After the war, Lewis went on to become a mother and an interpreter for the deaf community. Her face and hands are well-known to those who watch Mass of the Air on WHAS. Lewis, a member of St. Stephen Martyr Church, volunteered as an interpreter for the pre-recorded Masses for more than 40 years.

We will escort Ms. Lewis from Highlands Funeral Home to Ursuline Mother’s Home on the Sacred Heart Academy Campus, 3105 Lexington Road, Louisville, KY.
There will be military honors upon arrival outside of the chapel at 9:45am.
Funeral Service is 10am.
No Graveside Service.
