ABOUT THE MISSION:
The Patriot Guard Riders has been invited to stand in Honor of Fallen K9 Jig, IDD-M834 who served in the Mideast as an IED Detection Dog. Jig served in the United States Marine Corps from 2008- 2013, before he was adopted by George and Tracy Spader. Jig started his military career out of Norfolk, Va. Moving to Camp Pendleton before his deployment, which lasted from 2009-2011. After his return home in 2011, Jig remained at Lackland AFB in Texas. Tracy was told upon her trip to Lackland to sign Jig’s adoption papers, that Jig was used for demonstrations to high ranking dignitaries, to help sell the newly formed Marines IDD program. He was good at this job and he made an impression on those that watched him work. K9 Jig Retired in 2013 after being diagnosed in March of 2012 with oral melanoma, surgery to remove the melanoma was performed and Jig was kept on for another 6 months doing chemo, before the veterinary staff at Lackland AFB released him from his active duty status to live out his remaining days in a home and with so much needed couch time.
