Military Appreciation Day

The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to participate in the Military Appreciation Day at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia on Sunday, August 11th at 1400. This event is to recognize and support our military and veterans for their service. In 2010, over 800 military and family members participated in the recognition service. Last year attendance more than doubled and the Fair staff believes our participation helped by making the event more visible. The event will be inside the Mathewson Exhibition Center again this year and will be scheduled on the weekend to provide more comfort and accessibility for attendees.

Staging will be at 1300 at the MODOT facility on South 65 (map link below); KSU at 1330, for two separated escorts through the fairgrounds to the Exhibition Center. The event will begin at 1400 with PGR riding in to both sides of the stage and a flag line to show our support and respect for the military and their families. The surface will be hard rolled dirt and kickstand support will be provided, as long as we give them an accurate number to be prepared for.

Kansas City metro members, if we’d like to ride in as a group, staging will be at 100 SE Crestwood in Lee’s Summit, two convenience stores/gas stations in sight and plenty of shade. Distance from Lee’s Summit to Sedalia is 60 miles, and we will meet up with members from Warrensburg at the American Legion Post there. KSU from Lee’s Summit, NLT 1130.

After the event, the State Fair Admin welcomes you to remain and visit the fair. Current plan is for an escort back out to the MODOT Gate and a designated parking area for those who remain to attend the fair.

Riders and a passenger will be given admission to the fair that day. The Fair Administration understands that any honor missions will take priority. With that understanding, we need to get a general idea as to member interest to participate to help plan the line spacing in the event we ride into the presentation.

Please post if you intend to participate and if you will have a passenger.

Can we get some assistance in having some flags available for our non-riding members to organize a flag line?
