US NAVY MIA JAMES MONROE WOOTEN JR
MORGAN, GA. 16 JULY 2016


Ray Humphreys, Commander, American Legion Post #335, Sylvester, Ga, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders, on behalf of the Family of US Navy MIA Hospital Apprentice 1st Class James Monroe Wooten, Jr. (1900-1921) to participate in a MIA Honor Ceremony in Morgan Ga. this Saturday, 16 July 2016. The Ceremony will take place on the site that the Wooten Family placed a Memorial on his behalf in the Morgan Methodist Cemetery.

Hospital Apprentice 1st Class James Monroe Wooten, Jr. was declared MIA, along with 55 of his Crew Mates after leaving San Francisco en-route to Pearl Harbor on board the US Navy Tug, USS Conestoga, 25 March 1921. The USS Conestoga was located on sonar, 23 March 2016, two days short of being MIA 95 years, within the waters of Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary in California.

Members of AM Post #335 plan to give a short speech about James Wooten followed by a 21-gun salute, Taps and the folding and presentation of the flag. They also plan to bring a mid-ships bell off a navy ship. The names of all the 56 souls lost that tragic day will be read and the bell will toll in honor of each. US Navy & area Officials have been invited to take part. The Ceremony will also be attended by the surviving Family Members that have been located. The Ceremony is expected to last about one hour.

The Patriot Guard Riders attending will stand a Flag Line throughout the Ceremony in honor of those that were lost.

American Legion Post #335 will provides the 3X5 American Flags to be held by the Patriot Guard Riders in our Flag Line this Saturday as well as providing cold water for all that attend.

Morgan, Ga. Staging at 09:30am, Morgan Methodist Cemetery, corner Hwy 37 & Church Road on the right as you enter Morgan from the south on Hwy 37, where we will go over the mission statement prior to setting our Flag Line.
