World War II
Homestead Village Ballroom in Fairhope, AL
Fellow Riders,
It is with heavy heart that I must inform you that we have lost another American Hero.
The son of 2nd Lt. Elizabeth J. Blatchford has invited us to stand a silent flag for his Mother who passed away on 15 April, 2016, at the age of 94.
Mrs. Blatchford began her Army nursing career as a General Duty Nurse with the 193rd General Hospital (Greenbrier) in February 1945. In December of 1945, she was at an Army hospital in France until she was released from active service in New York City on 21 March, 1946. Her awards and commendations include African/European/Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal. Other awards and commendations are unknown at this time.
Ever the nurse, her wish was to have her body donated to the University of South Alabama to teach the future generations. She was a friend of Dr. Sidney Phillip’s sister. Taps will be played at the end of the memorial service.
