MEMORIAL MISSION: North Carolina Memorial Day Ceremony, Thomasville, NC, Monday, May 28th

Each year on Memorial Day, the town of Thomasville, NC holds a parade and memorial ceremony to honor North Carolina Gold Star Families, as well as all branches of the military and all veterans. This is the only Parade in North Carolina on Monday, and the largest in the Southeast. This is the 25th annual event. Thomasville has again asked the PGR to join them in honoring the Gold Star Families, several of whom we know personally.

11:00 AM – Parade from downtown Thomasville (at the big chair) to Veterans Memorial Park. Parade begins at 11:00 AM. The route is a little over half a mile and it will be slow going. We will be escorting the cars for the Gold Star Families, so big flags are welcome! At least 17 Gold Star families from NC are expected to participate. If we have enough riders, we may also escort the two Medal of Honor recipients who will be there.
STAGING: Please be in place by 10:00 AM. Ride briefing at 10:15. We will be staging on Randolph Street (Hwy 109 North) at the big square, on the railroad crossing, between the big chair and the fountain / clock tower. If you must GPS it, use the address of 17 West Main Street, Thomasville. We will be on the POST OFFICE side (south) of the tracks, heading NORTH on hwy 109 (the rest of the parade participants will be on the depot/gazebo/visitor center (north) side of the tracks). The best way to get there is from I-85, take the 102 / Lake Rd exit, and turn towards the Baptist Childrens Home (follow signs). Continue on that road (it becomes Baptist Children’s Home Rd) through the country, past the children’s home (Mills Home) to the first traffic light. It’s a couple miles. At that first light, TAKE THE RAMP TO THE RIGHT marked “To Main Street.” Right on West Main Street to the second traffic light (“Randolph St / Salem St”.) You should see us by then! Turn left to join us on the railroad crossing, headed north on Hwy 109. (Randolph St will be blocked, so it will be tricky to get there using exit 103 from I-85.) Please be careful to not park ON the tracks, a train is due to come through while we are staging.

I am honored to serve as the Ride Captain for this event.
