Honor Mission
Matthew J. Rittner, Veteran, Active Duty
USMC, LEO – WoT
Oak Creek, Wisconsin – 02-12-19
Oak Creek, Wisconsin – 02-12-19
ABOUT THE MISSION:
We have lost a great American hero at the too early age of 35. Like many we have served before, Officer Matthew Rittner was a Marine hero before coming home to protect us as a Milwaukee Police Officer. Rittner was a 2001 graduate of Greenfield High School, where he wrestled and played tennis as a senior. In 2001, he became a police aide with Milwaukee Police Department and over the next 17 years he rose through the ranks to handle high-risk situations as a member of the Tactical Enforcement Unit. Police Department records show he received an award for meritorious service for his work on the Tactical Enforcement Unit and the Medal of Valor after helping free hostages from a gunman in 2015.
As a U.S. Marine, he was deployed twice to Iraq with Milwaukee-based Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines. During a harrowing tour in 2004-’05, Rittner was in vehicles hit three times by roadside bombs and was in a 4½-hour firefight in which a fellow Marine was killed.
