DESCRIPTION:Honor Mission\nMarion Douglass Branch\, Retired\nUSMC – WWII\, Vietnam\nPrescott\, Arizona – 21 Apr 2018\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \n\nMarion Douglass Branch passed away peacefully at the Veterans Administration Hospice on March 30\, 2018. He was 99 years old. Marion joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1936 at seventeen years old. He was discharged in September 1937 to finish high school and re-enrolled in the CCC in April 1938. After a little over five years with the CCC he discharged out to join the Marines in 1941. During WWII Marion was deployed to fight in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He landed on the island on the second day of the battle when the artillery was sent in\, and was on the Island for two months. In his later service Marion did three tours of duty in Vietnam. In 1967 he was promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant\, the highest enlisted rank in the Marine Corps. Marion retired from the Marine Corps in 1971 with 30 years and 16 days of active service.After his retirement\, Marion took a job with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1972 as Food Supervisor at the Federal Correction Center in Lompoc\, California. After working in Correctional Centers in San Diego and New York\, he retired again in 1977 as Food Administrator. He enjoyed spending time at the shooting range and competing in NRA National Silhouette Championships. He was very proud of his AAA shooting classification which he maintained until he was 93 years old. Marion is survived by his brother\, one daughter and one son.
