SUMMARY:LTC Donald Schaetzel\, USA\, WWII
DESCRIPTION:The family of Donald Schaetzel as invited the Patriot Guard to stand a flag line in honor of his life and service to our country. \nDonald served in the US Army.  Donald was born in North Dakota and was raised by his mother during the depression. He later attended North Dakota State University on an Army ROTC scholarship. There he met his future wife\, and she never left his thoughts since that moment. He served as an officer in World War II with the 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division\, C Company. His unit was a part of Operation Nordwind during the Battle of the Bulge and later was the liberating force of the Dachau concentration camp. His Military Honors include three Bronze Stars with Valor\, two Purple Hearts and Presidential Unit Citation. After the war he remained in the Army Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.  When he returned home\, Donald graduated from NDSU with an Engineering Degree. He married his college sweetheart\, Jackie\, where they eventually made their home in Wayzata\, Mn. Don worked for General Mills for 30 years\, starting as a draftsman and retired as Director of Engineering. \nPlease come out and stand in silent tribute to Honor Donald’s life and service to our country. \n1:00 pm – Stage Lane A (along fence on 34th Ave S) at Ft Snelling National Cemetery\n1:30 pm – Brief\n2:00 pm- Interment \nEstimated release: 3:00 pm \nDismissal at RCIC’s discretion. \nThis is a rain\, or shine mission. Possession of firearms on any property under the charge and control of VA is prohibited.
