DESCRIPTION:Ira Thomas”Tom” Taylor\nWWII\, Korean War\, Vietnam\, Retired USAF\nRuston\, La\, 07-28-2016\n\n\n\nAfter graduating High school in 1943 He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps\, Trained as a navigator in B-24 Liberators and received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. Stationed In New Guinea\, he flew combat missions in the 5th Air force\, 90th Bomb group\, 319 squadron until the war ended in 1945. After the war he remained in the Army(later U.S. Air Force) reserves. In 1950\,Tom was recalled by the U.S. Airforce for the Korean War and flew 50 combat missions as a 1st Lt navigator/bombardier in B-26 Invaders. After the Korean War he went through Pilot training and became a flight instructor in the T-33 Shooting Star jet trainers and was promoted to the rank of Captain. After several years as a flight instructor he was promoted to Major. In 1966 he was deployed to Vietnam and was stationed at Ben Hoi AFB he was then promoted to LT. Colonel. After returning from Viet Nam he was stationed in Kansas and Izmir\, Turkey. He retired from active service in 1971. During active duty he received many medals including The Air Medal\, The Distinguished Flying Cross\, and The Bronze Star.
