ABOUT THE MISSION:
Lowell B. Hughes, a proud member of “The Greatest Generation”, passed away 06/13/2020 in Roswell, NM. He was born 10/12/1919 in Poteau, OK. Lowell served in the United States Army as a truck driver/heavy equipment operator, from 01/09/1941 until his honorable discharge 07/24/1945. He attained the rank of Tec 5. As a member of the 45th Infantry Division, 120th Combat Engineers, Lowell saw action in Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Africa, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. During this time Lowell was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European-African -Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with bronze arrowhead and Bronze Star Medal. Upon his return to the States Lowell began the Hughes Electric Company and married twice. Both wives preceded him in death. Lowell enjoyed collecting classic cars and at the age of 99 he was honored as the oldest Mustang owner during a ceremony on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington in Corpus Christi. Lowell was well known throughout Roswell for his generosity, most especially in his support of the Honor Flight Program and the Roswell Historical Society. Even as his body failed him, his mind did not and he had many stories to tell all who would listen.

Flag line will be established in the south parking lot of LaGrone Chapel and Crematory prior to the brief service and as the remains are placed into the coach.
An escort to the cemetery has yet to be determined.
