AFTER ACTION REPORT: Lewis G Smith, USN Korea Veteran, Sapulpa, OK
Tuesday, 20 November 2018 was a beautiful, cool but sunny day. The PGR staged at Green Hill Cemetery Committal Shelter. Flags had been posted around the shelter and were gently blowing in a light breeze. The coach with Seaman Smith arrived early from the funeral home. The PGR assisted with moving Seaman Smith from the coach to the committal shelter. A briefing was held and as a prayer was being given the family arrived. This was a private family interment. When the family was seated the PGR came forward, Taps were played, the flag was folded and presented to the oldest son. A “thank you” was given to the family for the opportunity to stand for their/our Hero. The PGR plaque and Invocation Letter were read and presented to each of the two sons. A Final Salute that all participated in was given for Seaman Lewis G Smith. One of the sons gave a few memoires of his father and the service was concluded. The PGR was asked by the family to assist in the movement of their loved one from the shelter to his final resting place. When the PGR completed this task, all went to the committal shelter to retrieve the posted flags and prepared them for the next mission.
Thank you, to the Smith family for inviting the PGR to be a part of this service to Honor this Hero. Thank you, to the PGR riders that took the time to “Stand and Honor” this Hero.
“Rest in Peace” Lewis G “Corkey” Smith, US Navy Korea Veteran, your mission is complete, you are gone, but your service to this great Nation will never be forgotten.
Respectfully submitted:
Mike “Penni” Pennington
