ABOUT THE MISSION:

Captain Leslie H. Van Huben, 95, a USAAC WWII Veteran, recently passed away.  He was drafted into the US Army Air Corp in 1942, he became a pilot and 2nd Lt in 1944.  He was assigned to the 500th Bomb Sqdn, of the 345th Bomber Group known as the Air Apaches, the first full USAAC Combat unit sent to the Pacific in WWII. Lt. Van Huben flew in 9 combat missions over the Pacific, from Manila to Okinawa. He proudly served this Nation, and was the recipient of many awards and commendations.  He was discharged from active duty in February 1947. He went on to study Engineering, graduating from Purdue University. He is survived by a loving family, and is missed by all.  Captain Leslie H. Van Huben is to be inurned on the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery on 21 May 2019, at approximately 11:00 am from the Administration Building. PGR has been invited to attend the services by his family, and we will be there to stand tall, silent and proud with him in honor of this US Army Air Corp Combat Veteran and part of the Greatest Generation, his family, friends and comrades at arms.
