  1. We’ve lost a fellow rider and a good friend. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of this great man, he was loved by all and will truly be missed. Rest in Peace Leroy, it was truly a pleasure knowing you

  2. With Our sincere Condolences We Send Our Thoughts & Prayers..To The Friends & Family & Loved One Of Our PGR Brother Leroy {poppa] Owens…

  3. Mission Complete: 4 May 2019 – Leroy “Poppa” Owens, PGR Member, Moore, OK.

On Saturday, 4 May 2019, there were 90+ riders, including 8 new riders, on 78 bikes and 4 cages who attended the mission to Honor the PGR Member Leroy “Poppa” Owens at the Southgate Baptist Church in Moore, OK.

The area surrounding the church was staked, and the American Flag flew proudly in the light wind as family and friends arrived.

The briefing was held, followed by a moment of silence for the Blue, Silver & Gold Star families, POWs and MIAs. A prayer asking comfort for the grieving family, a safe mission and protection for our military personnel engaged in the Global War on Terror was also said.

A Respect Line was formed, and triple lines of riders lined the way on both sides from the coach to the doors of the Church as the urn was carried from the coach to the front entry to the church.

Riders stood the Flag Line, standing on both sides of the entry door, and manned the doors, coming to attention again as the family arrived and entered the Church. Riders continued to man the Flag Line as friends arrived for the service until shortly before the start of the service, when the riders broke down the Flag Line and returned the flags to the flag vehicle before entering the Sanctuary as a group to attend the services for their fallen Brother.

At the conclusion of the service, Taps was played by a PGR Member, and PGR Presentations were made to the Surviving Spouse, Leroy’s Daughter, and his best friend.

When the Presentations were done, riders exited the Sanctuary in a group and formed a Respect Line as the urn was moved from the Church to the coach.

With the able assistance of the Moore Police Dept., the assembled riders then accompanied the coach, family and friends to the Moore Veterans Park, where the family had reserved the Pavilion and had invited all who attended the service to come by to pay their last respects to Poppa, visit with the family, and eat before continuing their weekend. The PGR Mission was concluded upon arrival at the Veterans Park.

Thank you to each of my fellow riders for attending this mission. This mission was greatly enhanced by the attendance of each of you, and your presence made a difference to this family.

Most of all, thank you Leroy “Poppa” Owens. Though you never served in the Armed Forces, you paid it forward in your own way by being an active Member of the Patriot Guard Riders and Honoring those who did serve and their families for several years.

Rest in Peace Poppa, your mission is complete, and you will not be forgotten.

    Respectfully,

    RCIC: Ray “rayneman” Gehrig
