ABOUT THE MISSION:

Departing this life May 16, 2019, Kenneth Franklin Abbott was 71. He proudly served aboard the Amphibious Assault Ship, USS Iwo Jima LPH-2 during the Vietnam War. AN Abbott’s duties were Aviation Boatswain’s Mate, including the launch and recovery of aircraft and operating related equipment. Nearly his entire 3 year, 6 month, and 25 day enlistment was served on Sea Duty. Awards: Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (60-), Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Abbott retired from the VA Hospital as a Supervisor of Environmental Sanitation. He was a compassionate fund raiser for charities including his favorite, terminally ill children. Survived by his wife of 47 years, one son, two daughters, five grandchildren, and two brothers.
