Honor Mission
Joseph Spurgeon Hice, Retired, Veteran
USA USAF – WWII
Canton, Georgia – 10-04-19

ABOUT THE MISSION:

The family of Lt Co Hice has requested the Patriot Guard Riders stand and honor their hero and it will be our honor to fulfill that request. Lt Co Hice enlisted in the USA Air Corps near the end of WWII and later attended the Aviation Cadet program, graduating in the USAF as a 2d Lt in June of 1948. Lt Co Hice served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, but information does not credit him with either during his 1 yr. 8 mo. of foreign service. As one of the first jet pilots he flew numerous aircraft during his career. He served in The Strategic Air Command during the Cuban Missile Crisis, briefing President Kennedy, and during operation “Looking Glass”, the Airborne Command Post, staying aloft for 24 hours at a time. He also led the first squadron of jet aircraft to circumnavigate the globe nonstop. After he retired from his twenty one year military career he joined Eastern Airlines and flew there for more than twenty years. He often ended his conversations with the radio talk response, 10-4, so his family decided that the appropriate date for his final service would be 10-4-19 with full military honors.
