Arlington National Cemetery
Jose J. Gonzalez, Active Duty, KIA
Alexandria, Virginia – 09-10-19

On 21 August 2019, MSG Jose J. Gonzalez, 35, and MSG Luis F. DeLeon-Figueroa, 31, both Special Forces soldiers, were killed in Afghanistan during combat operations in Faryab province, located in the far northwest of Afghanistan along the border with Turkmenistan.  Both soldiers were assigned to 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.  They were posthumously promoted to master sergeant.
MSG Gonzalez was a native of La Puente, CA.  These two Green Beret deaths bring the number of US Troops killed in action in 2019 to 14, with another 85 wounded.  The family of MSG Gonzalez has requested the Patriot Guard mount a flag-line and render honors as he arrives at Cunningham Turch FH, from Dover AFB, DE. on 10 September 2019.  Additionally they have asked that we escort him to his final resting place in Arlington National Cemetery on 11 September 2019.  We are indeed honored to do so.  MSG Jose J. Gonzalez is to be interred on the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery on 11 September 2019, at approximately 3:00 PM from the Administration Building.  PGR has been invited to attend the services by his family and we will be there to stand tall, silent and proud in honor of this US Army Combat NCO, his family, friends and comrades at arms.
