ABOUT THE MISSION:
The Patriot Guard Riders will honor John Richard “Wink” James, Sr., of Davidsonville, MD, by standing a silent flag-line during his visitation. CPL James passed away on March 31st, 2021 at home. He was 99 years old, 4 months shy of his 100th birthday and a WWII Combat veteran, of most of the major engagements in the European Theater. A D-Day survivor, he served with the 3704th Quartermaster Truck Company as a driver. He participated in the Normandy Invasion, fought through Northern France, The Rhineland, the Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Counteroffensive. Among his many awards and commendations are the Good Conduct Medal; Distinguished Unit Badge; American Theater Service Medal; European/African/Middle Eastern Service Medal w/5 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned home where he worked as a supervisor/superintendent in road construction. He was a proud member of the VFW and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 74 years Frances B. James and a large and loving family. He is sorely missed by all who knew him.
