Honor Mission
John “Paul” Gaines, Veteran

ABOUT THE MISSION:

The family of USA/Korean Vet, SSG John Paul Gaines has asked the PGR to stand a Flagline at his graveside services. Mr. Gaines, served eight years in the Army. He acquired several awards, Expert Infantry Badge, Sharpshooter with Rifle Bar, Marksman with Rifle Bar, two Good Conduct awards, Army Commendation Medal (Award for non-cambat Heroism,) and two overseas bars. Also, this Hero stood guard at the Graveside of President Kennedy, overseeing his wife and children and numerous dignitaries. After his Military Service, Mr. Gaines entered Law Enforcement. He served in Mino, Weatherford Police Department, Custer County Undersheriff, and Chief of Police for 20 straight years, he retired in 1990. He started the first local Marijuana testing programs within the department. Custer County’s only Certified gun range is named after Mr. Gaines and is still be used by many law enforcement agencies.
