  5. After Action Report Stage 2– 1 February 2019 – SSGT James M. Shackelford, USMC, Sand Springs OK

The weather moderated from the recent cold spell to greet 25 Patriots gathered to honor our hero, SSGT James M. Shackelford, USMC, including two retired Marines from Beaumont TX who had served with our hero in Iraq. Flags were staked around the entrance of the church before a briefing was held detailing the current mission and identified upcoming missions. It concluded with a moment of silence for our Gold, Silver and Blue Star families and a prayer for all gathered on this day and those serving our country home and abroad.

We then fanned out to man doors surrounding the church while others stood a flag line at each entrance. Once the service began the flags were furled and placed for the next mission and several Patriots made their way to the cemetery to prepare for our arrival. At the completion of the church service, a respect line formed as the hero was moved to the coach for the short procession to Woodland Memorial Cemetery, and another formed there for transfer to the gravesite.

Following a short message from the Pastor, the PGR made its presentation of plaques and invocations to the wife of our hero, active duty Navy, and his parents. The USMC Honor Guard provided full military honors with a moving simultaneous presentation of three flags to the wife and parents to complete the gravesite service.

Thank you to those who gave of their time this Friday afternoon to honor our hero, and his family for asking us to join in the celebration of his life. Most of all, our thanks to SSGT James M. Shackelford, USMC for answering your call to serve our great nation. May you rest in peace, Marine.
    Respectfully submitted

    Dan “Big D” Koehling
