ABOUT THE MISSION:
The family of US Navy Veteran John Gardner, 93, has requested our presence at the funeral of their loved one. After having completed college and with the completion of NROTC, John enlisted in the Navy as an Ensign in 1945 and was assigned to the USS Wake Island during WWII. The USS Wake Island was an escort carrier plying the seas between Okinawa and Guam. At the advent of the Korean War, John was called to active service and was assigned to the USS Healy, a Fletcher-class destroyer which, among other assignments, patrolled the seas off of Communist China and Korea. Now with the rank of Captain, John was in in charge of the ship’s Combat Information Center. Funeral is at Park Avenue Congregational Church, 50 Paul Revere Rd., Arlington, MA 02476
