ABOUT THE MISSION:

SMSgt John J. Yuhas was born June 28, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late John and Josie (Hanus) Yuhas. He was a graduate of Forest County Agricultural High School in Mississippi, where his father served in the Army at Camp Shelby.

After High school, Mr. Yuhas enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served in the Air Force in World War II, Korea and Vietnam as an Aerial Gunner, Crew Chief, and Flight Engineer on the B-24, B-25, C-47, C-82, B-29, and KC-97 aircrafts. He assisted in the development of the first United States Operational Guided Missile, the “Matador.”

John retired from the USAF as a Senior Master Sergeant after 21 years of service, during which he earned numerous military awards. After his retirement from the Air Force, he went to work at Sprint Telephone Company, from which he retired after 22 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and various military and civilian organizations.  Obituary
