Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, we have been requested to stand for John Edward Curran, age 93. He was raised in N.W. Portland and attended St. Patrick’s Grade School. At 16 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, then returned to serve in the Navy in 1942. He served aboard the USS Wilson as a Torpedoman 1C. He was awarded numerous honors and medals, including the Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal w/10 stars, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Philippine Liberation Medal w/2 stars. He also earned the Medal of Valor after jumping overboard to save a fellow sailor’s life. Please join us as we help support his family, pay our respects, and honor his service to our nation.
