Confirmed Mission
John E. Tourville, Sr.
U.S. Navy Veteran WWII and Korea
Green Bay, WI
Saturday, June 4, 2016

John E. Tourville, Sr. of Ashwaubenon, died on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. He was born in 1925 in Hancock, MI and immediately after he graduated from Houghton High in 1943 he enlisted in the Navy. John served three years in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Fleet in the European Theater. He took part in the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach, operating a Higgins landing craft and was among the first wave of vessels to arrive at 0600 hours that historic day. He also served 16 months on the Sea of Japan on the USS Ashtabula during the Korean conflict in 1950-1951. He traveled back to France for the 50th Anniversary of D-Day and his family said he came back with a new perspective on the importance of what we did.

We often hear about those who know the joy of giving in the service and those who continue to give. John loved working in a program that helped kids learn to read and he was a long time volunteer with the March of Dimes. As he continued to give throughout his life, let us give back to John with the honor and respect he has earned.
