Escort and Transfer of Jewett Williams, Civil War Veteran, Salem, OR ~ 01/AUG/16

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders. The respectful transfer of the remains of a Civil War Soldier is slated to begin on August 1st in Salem and continue through our North East District to Ontario Oregon and on to Maine for burial with full Military Honors on September 17th.

Jewett Williams moved to Oregon after he served with the 20th Maine in the Civil War. He died in the early 1900’s in an asylum and was cremated. Recently his remains were found in the basement of the long ago closed facility and preparations have been on going to return him to Maine. ***In the early 1900s they put cremains in a copper vessel. Jewett Williams’ cremains have been removed and placed in a ceramic urn. The original copper vessel and the urn have been bubble-wrapped and placed in a wooden box for safe transport. The dimensions of the box are 14”L x 10”H x 8”D. This will have to be securely fastened to a rack or in a saddle bag or tour pack of an appropriate size. There will also be a folded flag.

***You are welcome to join at any of the listed stops and proceed on that leg of the Oregon journey as far as you wish. Times are estimates only and KSU may adjust if all are ready to go earlier than listed. Arrive early and ready to roll for the segment that you wish to join. Riders are also welcome to join in at ramps between. If at a non-listed ramp, please wait at the bottom of the East Bound Ramp and fall in at the rear of the pack.
