SUMMARY:Jeffrey Wallace Gilmour \, Active Duty\, USAF
DESCRIPTION:1Lt Jeffrey Wallace Gilmour\, Active Duty \nUSAF \nAlpharetta\, Georgia – 03 Mar 2017\n\n

\nABOUT THE MISSION: \nGeorgia and the Nation has lost another great American Hero. 1LT Jeffrey Wallace Gilmour\, age 29\, formerly of Alpharetta\, who passed away February 19\, 2017 while on active duty in the US Air Force. The family of Lt. Gilmour has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to stand in honor of him and his service to our country and we have accepted this invitation. \n1Lt. Gilmour was a rocket propulsion analytical chemist at the Air Force Research Labs – Rocket Propulsion Lab stationed at Edwards Air Force Base\, California. \nLieutenant Gilmour was commissioned in 2014 after graduating from the University of New Mexico\, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Prior to his current assignment\, Lieutenant Gilmour completed his Masters in Chemistry at San Diego State University as part of the Air Force Institute of Technology’s Civilian Institution Program. Before commissioning\, Lieutenant Gilmour served as a Financial Management and Special Actions Technician with the 377th Comptroller Squadron\, Kirtland AFB\, NM\, at the rank of Senior Airman. He was selected for commissioning through the SOAR (Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen to ROTC) program. \nAt Edwards AFB\, Lieutenant Gilmour led pioneering feasibility studies of composite structures manufactured by a revolutionary process\, enabling considerable improvements in performance and acquisition costs of next-generation ballistic missile defense and tactical weapon systems. He demonstrated composite rocket motor cases could be built directly around live solid propellant through a new resin curing method. His work established the framework for a $20M project agreement between the Air Force and the Ministry of Defense of Japan\, the largest international partnership of its kind in Air Force Research Lab history\, strengthening ties with a key strategic partner in the Asia Pacific region and addressing a growing regional defensive capability need for Japan. Lt Gilmour’s creativity\, resourcefulness\, and perseverance towards development of these technologies will be remembered for helping improve our nation’s defense and protect our interests in the Asia Pacific region. \nThe family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM\, Friday\, March 3\, 2017 at SouthCare Cremation & Funeral Society.
