Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, we have been requested to stand for James Morgan Layton, born on August 28, 1931 in Dublin, Georgia, the 9th of 10 sons. Following the death of his mother at age 14, Jim was brought to Oregon by an older brother to live in Springdale, OR, where he attended Springdale Grade School for his 7th and 8th grades. Jim then attended Columbian High School in Corbett for two and a half years before joining the United States Marine Corps Reserves in May of 1950. In June of 1950, he attended boot camp at Camp Pendleton. His unit was called to active duty in June of 1951. Jim served two tours of duty in Korea, where he was a truck driver. Jim was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Medal, Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Korean Service Medal w/4 Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sgt (E-5) in August of 1955. Please join us as we help support his family, pay our respects, and honor his service to our nation.
