ABOUT THE MISSION:
PFC James M. Sawyer, 95. of Maumelle, Arkansas passed away June 27, 2019. He was born in Falls City, Nebraska on April 28, 1924. James proudly served in the U.S. Army Cavalry as a Recon Driver of scout cars behind enemy lines during night missions to assess and report enemy troop strength and movements in both the Pacific and European/North African Theaters from 15 Jun 42 – 14 Oct 45. His last year of duty was as a Mortar Gunner. Awards include the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (x3), American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Expert Badge w/Carbine. After the service he was in Quality Control for Weyerhaeuser for 30 years. He was preceded by his wife of 42 years. He is survived by 2 sons, 1 daughter, 1 step-daughter, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. When not spending time doting over family he enjoyed watching football, basketball, bowling, and his beloved Cubs.
