ABOUT THE MISSION:
Brothers and Sisters of the PGR, it is with a heavy heart that I come to you today with a call to once again, stand silent and proud for one of our own who stood alongside us at PGR missions. James “Jay” Hiram Weaver, Jr., 61, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Jay loved his country and proudly served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. His awards and decorations include the Good Conduct Award; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Jay retired from Durham County Sherriff’s Department as a detention officer and later worked as a Psychiatric Technician at Central Regional Hospital. In the 90’s, he served as a Scout Master of BSA. He was a member of Gorman Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and youth leader. Jay loved riding his motorcycle and was a long time member of the Patriot Guard Riders. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking. Jay was a hardworking, dedicated, and loving man, who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Jay is survived by his wife, Lisa Meadows Weaver; son, Brandon Wayne Tatum; daughters, Ginny Weaver and Nicole Tatum Shelton; sisters, Phyllis Matthews, Melissa Gilbert, Jamie Ragan; and grandchildren, Gracyn “Monkey”, Georgia, and Zachary. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Gorman Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
