Sergeant James E. Butland, Jr, 82, from Harrwood, Md. passed on Tuesday, 21 April 2015. At age 17Jim lied about his age in order to serve his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He was a combat vet., who served as a Machine Gunner and 81 MM Forward Observer.
After leaving the Marines, Jim served 35 years of federal Service, 25 years in private industry.
Jim received numerous awards and commendations, including the Korean Service Metal w/2- stars, Combat Action Medal, Naval Operation Medal and many others.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, 4 adult children, 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Sergeant James E. Butland is to be interred on the hallowed grounds of Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery on 6 May 2015. The PGR has been invited by his son,who is a Va. PGR member, and family to provide a Honor Escort to his final rest.
