The family of James Andrews Simpson has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders for services and military honors
James Andrews Simpson was a United States Marine Corps Veteran and a Member of the Greatest Generation. James was a Machine Gunner in the Pacific (Battles of Guam, the Aleutian Islands, Midway, Battles of Tarawa and New Hebrides). Was Air/Land/Sea rated Machine Gunner and certified on a 50 cal, 30 cal and BAR. Served as tail-gunner on a TBF (Torpedo Bomber Fighter). His squadron in the 1ST Marine Division was accredited for shooting down the first Japanese aircraft with a rocket. His squadron was also credited for sinking many German subs in the Pacific.
James earned many awards and accommodations. He was known as an original “tough guy” but was a very compassionate man. James was also a Baptist Evangelist Preacher, traveling Mississippi and Alabama.
The family wanted us to know, that just hours before his departure, he instructed his son to make it known that he “Loved the PGR and what we stood for and what we do”. The family has requested that the PGR be pallbearers for James and the PGR would be honored to do so.
