Mehl has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to escort them from their home\, and then stand a flag line at Sarasota National Cemetery where they will be laying him to rest. HA2 Mehl served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Antietam.\nHe served from 1945 – 1947 in WWII\, and upon completion of service received an Honorable Discharge. He received the  World War II Victory Medal. After the Navy\, he was a microbiologist and head of Research and Development with Becton Dickinson before retiring.
