Island County Washington Bell Ringing
Oak Harbor, Washington – 11-03-19

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, please join me as we show honor, respect and appreciation to the many Island County veterans who have passed away in the last six months. For some, this may be the last time their name is spoken in public. Each veteran’s name is read with the branch in which he or she served, conflicts served in and awards received if applicable, followed by the ringing of a bell. After all the names are recognized a piper plays Amazing Grace, followed by a rifle salute and by a bugler playing taps. The American Flag is then folded and presented.
Please come out and help ensure each veteran is given the honor and respect they deserve. This is a flag line only mission. Please be mindful of the ferry as space will fill quickly, even for motorcycles. It is advised that you use the reservation system if possible.

Island County Washington Bell Ringing Comment

  1. 25 members came together to honor 132 Veterans of Island County that passed in the first 6 months of 2019. Briefing was held and flag etiquette was addressed. Flag line was set just prior to start of ceremony. As each veteran’s name was read, a bell was rung in their honor. This was a great event for many reasons. First, we ran out of flags. Always a great day when we have more people than flags. Secondly, many different clubs came together to work together to honor our HEROES. Debrief was held and I gave out 2 first timer pins. After the debrief, the leaders of the various groups talked of ways where we can all come together to support each other’s missions.
