ABOUT THE MISSION:
Mr. Smith served in the US Navy from 1942 until 1945 in World War II. He was an Aviation Metalsmith in Patrol Service Unit one-two, staged at Pearl Harbor and seeing combat in Espiritu Santo, Guadalcanal and the Admiralty Islands. He was called back to active duty by the US Navy during the Korean War but never deployed overseas during this conflict. He proudly and honorably served in the Navy a total of eight years and six months. From 1953-1961 he worked for the US Navy as a civilian in various capacities in the Publications and Printing Branch and served as Management Analyst working across the United States in New Orleans, LA, Bremerton, WA, Agana, Guam, and Edwards, CA. Moving to Washington, DC, he spent 20+ years working at the Pentagon for Department of the Air Force and US Department of Energy, retiring in 1983 as a Program Analyst for the Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Renewable Energy. His career spanned eight consecutive presidential administrations.
