The family of Mr. Huroy H. Brown, has requested the PGR stand in honor of their Marine. Mr. Brown was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1943. He was sent to the Pacific theater and saw action at Okinawa.
Mr. Brown was a graduate of South Carolina State Agricultural college and after he left the Marine Corps in 1945, he became an industrial arts instructor, teaching carpentry. In 1955 Mr. Brown completed a Master’s Degree.
He taught at many schools here in South Carolina, beginning his career at Robert Smalls High School in Beaufort, SC. He also taught at schools in St. George, SC, Simpsonville, Kentucky and Bishopville, SC. After over 40 years as an educator, he retired from teaching in 1976. After his retirement he continued doing carpentry work in his community. Mr. Brown was also active in his church where they voted him “Man of the Year” in 2015 and 2016.
We will be honored to stand and pay respect to Mr. Brown.
Services will be held at Mt. Pisgah AME church in Sumter, SC at 12:00 PM on Friday, 23 September 2016.

EXECUTION: Once the service begins we will stand down the flag line. There will be an escort to Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery located at 3001 Cains Mills Road Sumter, SC. Once we arrive at the cemetery we will stand up a flag line and render final honors to Mr. Brown.
