The Commander of the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) has requested all riding organizations, veterans and the general public to help welcome the Purple Heart Run to Veterans Memorial Park in Sierra Vista on 18 May 2016 at 3:00 pm. The focus of the 2016 Purple Heart Run is to promote “Mobility is Freedom” for our wounded combat veterans. The run features a mobility equipped 2015 Ford F-150 super cab truck that is adapted to suit combat wounded veterans who are paralyzed or who have lost legs or arms. The truck is painted purple and has the Purple Heart emblem painted on the hood, sides and tailgate. The Purple Heart Run is a trip across America, which started on May 2, 2016 from Mt. Vernon, VA. It will travel to California and back across the country to arrive in Washington DC on Memorial Day. The truck will be driven solely by combat wounded and disabled veterans. In a special ceremony at the end of the run, the truck will be presented to a deserving Purple Heart recipient. Riders who wish to ride with the truck to Veterans Memorial Park in Sierra Vista should meet at RV City in Whetstone per staging info below. Riders are requested to stand a flag line for a brief ceremony at the park upon arrival of the truck.
