Memorial Escort
The Wall That Heals
Mobile, Alabama
Tuesday, 17 May 2016

Fellow Riders,

The Blue Star Salute Foundation has arranged for The Wall That Heals to be at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama in conjunction with the 12th Annual Blue Star Salute. The Wall That Heals will arrive on Tuesday, 17 May 2016 and will be at Battleship Park for visitation from 19-22 May 2016. The Blue Star Salute Foundation has asked the Patriot Guard Riders to escort The Wall That Heals through Alabama to Battleship Park. The Patriot Guard Riders are honored to provide the escort of this memorial that means so much to our Vietnam Veterans, their families, and the families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their nation or did not return home from that war.

After coordination with the trucking company that will be transporting the Wall, the trucking company approved an alternate escort route in the interest of safety. That route will start at the Creek Travel Plaza, Exit 54 on Interstate 65 South in Atmore, Alabama and will end at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, AL. In the interest of security, at the request of the trucking company and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation, the full route details will not be published in this message. Full route details will be presented at the escort mission briefing at the Creek Travel Plaza. Members of the Blue Star Salute Foundation will also participate in the escort. We will have LEO escort for the entire route.

Because of the impact The Wall That Heals has on Vietnam Veterans as well as other veterans, all other veteran organizations are invited to participate in the escort. Every attempt will be made to keep organizations together as a group in the escort. This means that all participants must arrive at the staging location at the designated time to permit line up prior to the mission briefing and departure.

Joining the escort after KSU will not be permitted for safety reasons. Anyone wishing to ride in the escort MUST be present at the mission briefing/safety briefing. Again, for safety reasons, anyone who is not present at the mission briefing/safety briefing will not be permitted to join the escort. Additionally, cages participating in the escort will be limited to two PGR Support Vehicles and the Blue Star Salute Foundation pickup truck and trailer at the tail end of the escort. This limitation is also for the safety of all participants in the escort.
