The town of Huachuca City has requested PGR and all riders to attend the flagpole raising and dedication at the Community Center on the corner of Yuma and Gila streets, 17 May 2016 at 10:00 am. The flagpole was donated by Grasshopper Landscaping & Maintenance LLC and will be dedicated to Retired Army Staff Sergeant Elmer Urda, a long time resident of Huachuca City. Elmer enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and served in Korea and Vietnam. Elmer retired at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1975. While serving in Korea he volunteered to help local citizens divert water during a drought and received commendation from Pyongtaek County Governor. After his retirement from the Army, Elmer continued his volunteer work in the Town of Huachuca City. Elmer worked with the Volunteer Fire Department, Planning and Zoning Board, Senior Center and Police Volunteer Patrol, just to name a few. Elmer is active in the Red Cross and a 28+ year volunteer at Tucson VA Medical Center. In 2009 Elmer was selected by the City of Sierra Vista to serve as Grand Marshall for the Veterans Day Parade. Elmer has focused his volunteer activities on helping his fellow veterans and their families and it is clear that he has made a difference in their lives. The dedication will commence at 10:00 am at the Community Center in Huachuca City.
