The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 957 of Orange County will be conducting an Orange County Law Enforcement Memorial Service to honor and remember the 28 members of the Orange County law enforcement community that have made the ultimate sacrifice as well as their loved ones who were left behind.

At this year’s service, the Fraternal Order of Police will be adding the name of Town of Crawford Police Department Sergeant Eric O. Meier to our Memorial Walls. Sgt. Meier, 51, was a 25 year veteran of the department and died in the performance of duty on September 17, 2015 while conducting a narcotics related investigation. He was the PBA President at the time of his passing and was also a long time member of the Pine Bush School Board. Sgt. Meier is survived by his wife Jo Ann; his two adult sons Jacob and Curtis; and his mother Erika Scheuermann. Sgt. Meier’s name was enshrined on the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in Washington D.C. during Police Week observances in May 2016.

Also being honored at this year’s service is NYPD Police Officer Ronald G.Becker of Monroe. P.O. Becker was a first responder to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 and performed duties related to the search and recovery effort in the days and months following the attack. He was a 20 year NYPD veteran and was assigned to the 42nd Precinct in the Bronx for his entire career. Officer Becker, 53, succumbed to a WTC related illness on August 19, 2012 and his death was designated a line of duty by the NYPD. Officer Becker is survived by his wife Patricia, son Ronald, and daughters Tara and Patricia.

Enter off entrance on Scotchtown Road.

5:15 pm – Stage for flag line in front of the Court House. Flag line will be established behind the monuments and be there for when family and friends arrive starting at 5:30 pm. If any PGR members have extra flags and poles please bring them if possible for those who may not have them.

6:00 pm – Memorial service begins.

The service will be approximately 60-75 minutes in duration and a reception will be held in the courthouse lobby immediately thereafter. The service is open to all members of the law enforcement community, as well as to the general public. Local media outlets will be notified and are expected to cover the event.
